the permanency of the relationship between the parties;
the degree of skill required from the worker;
the extent of the worker’s investment in equipment or materials;
the worker’s opportunity for profit or loss, depending upon their skill;
the degree of the alleged employer’s right to control the manner in which the work is performed; and
whether the service rendered is an integral part of the alleged employer’s business.
The test is a “loose formulation, leaving the determination of employment status to case-by-case resolution based on the totality of the circumstances.”
The economic factors are supposed to aid in answering the the ultimate question – the individual’s economic dependence or independence from the alleged employer.
